Welcome to Northland Community & Technical College in Thief River Falls and East Grand Forks, MN. Our Construction Electricity diploma program prepares students to build, install, maintain and repair electrical systems that provide heat, light, or power for residential, commercial and industrial structures. Technical and general courses provide students with a mix of theory and hands-on application in classroom, lab settings, and job sites. This comprehensive program includes maintenance of electrical equipment, wiring methods, blueprint reading, material selection, programmable controllers, and the National Electric Codes. EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES The Construction Electricity program major prepares each graduate to enter employment as an apprentice who ultimately can earn a master electricians license. After completion of this comprehensive program, the construction electrician can assemble, install, and test wiring used in the electrical systems that provide heat, light, and power to residential and commercial buildings. ACCREDITATION The program is approved by the Minnesota State Board of Electricity as one year of credit toward students' journeyman's license.

The President of Racino Now, Dick Day, traveled to the St. Paul, Minnesota on Tuesday, February 23 to unveil the 2010 Racino Bill in conjunction with its authors State Representative Al Juhnke (DFL-Willmar) and Senator Dan Sparks (DFL Austin). The proposed legislation would create the Jobs, Family and Economic Development fund. Is it estimated that as much as $125 million a year will be generated for this fund through the expansion of video game wagering at Minnesotas two racetracks Canterbury Park and Running Aces Harness Park. "Racino is a win-win for Minnesota," said Day. "We are facing a $1.2 billion deficit and thousands of people are unemployed. We know there is no new money available to invest in areas such as early childhood education, agriculture or the biosciences. This plan covers it all." Best Buy Co., Inc. was honored with a 2008 Secretary of Labor's New Freedom Initiative Award for its Employee Business Network called INCLUDE. Reflecting its slogan of "Focus on Abilities, not Disabilities," the group advocates for culture change by promoting employment opportunities, supportive services and accommodations for people with disabilities in a manner designed to benefit everyone-employees, customers, families and local communities. Within months of its formation in 2006, INCLUDE received more than 300 inquiries regarding accommodations and other disability issues, many of which resulted in changes designed to improve employee and customer experiences. Examples are subtitling all training DVDs, adding coverage for hearing aids in the company-sponsored health plan, proactively targeting job candidates with disabilities and implementing disability awareness training for employees. As part of the effort, Best Buy has also established strategic partnerships with disability organizations, including the Maryland School for the Deaf, Career Opportunities for Students with Disabilities and the Minnesota Business Leadership Network. These partnerships and the overall success of INCLUDE are already translating into a competitive edge for Best Buy by closing gaps not only in its workforce, but also its customer base.

Our Computer Service/Networking Associates degree offers students both theory and hands-on training in computer equipment servicing and networking. Computer skills development covers the hardware and software systems of current computer technology. Networking skills include switching, routing, server operating systems, directory services and much more. Many classes are built around specific industry certifications. The program prepares graduates for immediate entry-level employment in any size company utilizing computer technology. Our Automotive Service Technology program is designed primarily for students who would like to further their education in Automotive Service. The Automotive Service Technician is a person working in an exciting and rapidly changing industry. Students in this program will receive training in the many service and diagnostic procedures necessary to maintain our Nation on Wheels. Students are trained in modern laboratories equipped with current service and testing equipment. Students entering this program should have good mechanical aptitude, good communication skills, and the ability to read and comprehend service literature. Graduates of this program will have a variety of opportunities that range from driveability technician, alignment and suspension specialist, transmission specialist, service advisors and managers. Opportunities for advancement may include factory and dealer representatives, management, and self-employment. Kaleidoscope Place is making a difference in the Twin Cities by providing youth with safe and supportive after school and summer programming, as well as, year-round job opportunities for youth. These job opportunities give the youth focus and purpose, which helps keep them out of trouble. We help them develop vital skills they can use in the workforce, which directly and positively impacts their future. Kaleidoscope Place, located in Minneapolis, MN, offers free and sliding fee based after school and summer programs for students in High Five (preK) through 8th grade.
