Sustainable Water Resources. Protecting and sustaining our most valuable natural resource ... As water passes over rocks and soil it typically dissolves certain salts in those rocks and in that soil. For that reason, calcium salts, magnesium salts, strontium salts and manganese salts belong on the list of ingredients in tap water. Much tap water also contains a measurable amount of ferrous iron. The presence in tap water of those salts can cause that tap water to show an ...

Forest Focus- Soil and Water (French Sub-Titles)

Fresh water is a precious natural resource. Forests play a critical role in maintaining supplies of fresh water to meet the needs of humans and ecosystems. This segment explores the critical scientific role of Natural Resources Canada and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources in helping to monitor and protect Canada's fresh water. This video is part of the Candian Forest Service Forest Focus Series (2008).

Cashing in on natural resource management (NRM) (episode 3)

On-farm management practices that are good for the environment can also drive improved profitability. A commonsense approach to implementing natural resource management (NRM) into a cropping, prime lamb and wool enterprise has been embraced by brothers Ken and Charlie Baldry. Ken says his pasture management regime has improved the levels of organic matter and nitrogen in the soil and the cropping rotation has increased phosphorus levels. The farms planned and organised rotational benefits are one way the brothers have increased production. While the changes theyve made to improve their natural resource management have been their own, Ken says the Grain and Graze program, a research, development and delivery program looking to address the connections between the on farm components being the pastures, the crops, the vegetation has been a great resource.

A Culture of Conservation: Don't Call it Dirt - A Passion for Soil

Soil is made up of air, water, mineral particles, organic matter and organisms. It takes thousands of years for rock to develop into soil and hundreds of years for rich organic layers to build up. Keeping soil in place is only the beginning of soil conservation. In this video, we will review how far we have come and explore what needs to be done to preserve this precious resource. We also will look at how soil affects us and our productivity. How do we continue to maximize the land's output without diminishing the soil's natural capacity? Created to accompany the video series, these two publications serve as additional resources for educating youth about the importance of our natural resources.
